Pros and Cons: Installing a TV on a Fireplace

Updated: Mar 15, 2024

Mounting a TV on a fireplace is a popular trend in modern home design. It not only saves space but also adds a touch of elegance to your living room. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to this setup. In this blog post, we will discuss the pros and cons of installing a TV on a fireplace.

Learn about the advantages and disadvantages of installing a TV on a fireplace in our latest blog post.
Installing a TV on a fireplace has its advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  1. Space-saving: One of the main benefits of installing a TV on a fireplace is that it saves space in your living room. By mounting the TV on the wall above the fireplace, you can free up valuable floor space that would have been taken up by a TV stand.

  2. Aesthetic appeal: A mounted TV above the fireplace adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to your living room. It can enhance the overall aesthetics of your home and make your living room look more modern and sleeker.

  3. Comfortable viewing: Mounting the TV above the fireplace provides a comfortable viewing experience, as it allows you to watch TV at eye level without straining your neck or eyes.

Cons:

  1. Heat damage: The heat from the fireplace can damage your TV over time. If the TV is mounted too close to the fireplace, it can cause overheating, which can lead to permanent damage to the TV.

  2. Safety concerns: A mounted TV above the fireplace can pose safety hazards, especially if you have small children or pets. If the TV is not securely mounted or the mounting bracket is not installed correctly, it can fall and cause injury.

  3. Limited viewing angles: Mounting the TV above the fireplace can limit the viewing angles, especially if you have a large living room. If the TV is too high, it can be difficult to watch from certain areas of the room.

Installing a TV on a fireplace has its advantages and disadvantages. While it saves space and adds aesthetic appeal to your living room, it can also pose safety concerns and limit viewing angles. If you're considering this setup, make sure to weigh the pros and cons and take necessary safety precautions. Consult with a professional like The Renov Team for proper installation and safety measures to ensure a safe and comfortable TV viewing experience.

* 1-Year Workmanship Warranty* — We stand behind our work with a 1-year workmanship warranty, so you can move forward with confidence. This warranty applies to qualifying construction projects and typically begins at substantial completion, covering workmanship-related defects tied to the scope of work we performed when materials and installation meet contract standards. Warranty coverage is not included for remodeling projects and is also excluded from low-cost/“budget” construction scopes where the client selects the cheapest materials or provides materials that do not meet our recommended specifications. When The Renov Team selects and supplies the materials (or when client-selected materials are approved and meet our required standards), the 1-year workmanship warranty may be provided for eligible projects. Issues must be identified and reported within 365 days of substantial completion. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, misuse or abuse, accidental damage, lack of maintenance, or modifications/repairs performed by others after completion. *Warranty terms and eligibility requirements apply—see your contract for full details and specific coverage.
